October Feature Team Member: Dana

This gorgeous gal is kicking off our Feature Team Member blog! She wins mom-of-the-year award every year and can tell you anything you want to know about gardening, cooking, and Southern Ohio charm!

Read on to get to know, Dana.

You are an incredible momma to two beautiful boys, what’s the secret to being such a great mom?!
Awe… I don’t know about incredible, more like a work in progress lol but thanks. I would say the key to being a good parent is understanding your child- their wants, needs, hopes, and dreams; encouraging them in all they do and in stepping outside of their comfort zone, knowing that it’s ok to fail (for both kids and parents), patience, and have fun and enjoy all you do together.
What do you love doing when you aren’t working and being supermom?!
I recently started yoga classes. I also love gardening (veggies), canning, baking, reading, gathering party ideas for the next big shin-dig, and dreaming of my next beach getaway.
Kid’s Halloween Costumes are…..
Well we were going to be Rock-Paper-Scissors but my youngest has now decided be wants to be the Gold Power Ranger so I guess I need to figure out some awesome duo ideas. Any suggestions? 🙂

Favorite Book? And, what should we be reading?!
A Fish Out of Water by Helen Palmer. It’s a children’s book that my grandmother used to have around her house. I always liked the idea when I was younger that I was reading a book that my dad and my aunt and uncles read when they were my age. I bought it for my oldest on his first birthday and it used to be one of his favorites. I pulled it off the shelf just the other night to read it to my youngest and even at 9 years old, he came running  into the room to listen to me read it.
As for what you should be reading… I’m always partial to a good murder mystery. Try the Archie Sheridan/Gretchen Lowell series by Chelsea Cain (#1-Heartsick) or Blackbirds by Chuck Wendig for a dark sci-fi trip.
Why do you love working at Magnolia Dental?
I really love the people that I work with and the care and attention we all give every person that walks in our office. I love the small, hometown feel and that the patients aren’t just faces passing through but individuals with interesting lives and stories to share. I have a crazy weird memory, so I love catching up with everyone at each appointment, seeing what’s new and exciting in their lives.
Describe yourself in 5 words:
First and foremost and Always- Mom.
Creative (or so I’d like to think)-
Sarcastic-
Curious-
Over-thinker/Worrier
What are your boys into right now?!
This week? Today? The past 15 minutes? Lol. My oldest is into anything sports- OSU, Cavaliers, basketball, golf. Yes hepicture4 loves to play, but he has such an analytical mind too it’s ridiculous. He can spout off stats that sound like gibberish to me. My youngest loves Pokemon and Yo-kai-watch, soccer, school, and the occasional annoying of his older brother of course. They both love hiking, camping, frisbee golf, and are just happy to be doing anything as a family really.

How do your boys describe you?!
Depends on the day- Some days I am the best mom because I “cook them yummy food, clean the house, do the laundry, help with homework, rock out soccer practice (that I somehow got wrangled into coaching and know nothing about), and read to them.” Can we just stop there? 🙂

If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would it be and who would you take?
That’s a hard one to narrow down… I’d love to just have the chance to travel anywhere abroad and take the boys. I’d love to experience the beauty and adventure of exploring a new place, expose them to the diversity of the world, and maybe all of us gain a new appreciation for the creature comforts we have gotten used to. That or just road trip around the 48 contiguous states. I’d settle for either. 🙂

Chocolate or Caramel?
Both- it’s called a Caramelo bar or Rolos.

Country or Rock’n Roll?
While I pride myself in my eclectic taste in music, I tend to gravitate country.

Best concert you’ve ever seen?!
Gary Allen, but Diamond Rio and their fiddle comes a close second.

What do we need to know about gardening?!dane1
Pull those Weeds! And rotate crops… yes, even in a small backyard garden.
Cooking or Baking? Both
